Pollinator Park Party

September 25, 2016

A little bee told me that there will be a Pollinator Party at Hakanoa Reserve in Grey Lynn! Party starts at 12.30pm on October 1st and we want you to be a part of our grand opening.

To RSVP click here! https://www.facebook.com/events/298276823873975/

We are lucky enough to live in one of the greenest countries in the world. What we need now, is the right kind of green. The kind of green that feeds and shelters our birds, bees and lesser known pollinating animals.

We would love your help to plant in the afternoon and bring the kids to collect sticks and pinecones to fill the pollinator wall.

We will have live music, bee face painting for the kids and snacks for our awesome helpers.

Bring your gummies, gloves and a spade if you have them and lets make Hakanoa Reserve the best spot in Auckland for Pollinators to come!

Our park opening will also be featured as a part of the 'For the Love of Bees' Spring Biking Bee Adventure! So bring your bike to the event and finish the trail at 3pm with us by journeying down to Kelmarna Gardens for a much deserved morning tea!

Pollinator Parks like this one, transform public spaces into flourishing habitats for locals of all species to enjoy (even humans!). It contains carefully selected native and non-native foliage, chosen by the critters themselves. Bees often get all of the credit for being pollinating powerhouses, meaning that others get overlooked. Any animal with the ability to spread pollen from flower to flower, is in fact a pollinator.

Every great path has humble bee-ginnings!

It takes more than one bee to make a garden. With your help and support, we can spread Pollinator Parks far and wide across Auckland. This park is just the beginning of a pathway to a greener Auckland - a Pollinator Path.

Massive thanks to the Waitemata Local Board for funding the event, Gecko NZ Trust for helping us make it happen, the Auckland Council for their support, all of the great Grey Lynn and environmental community groups and all my friends for their amazing support!
